Panzerkampfwagen IV ausf H in Poland

Panzerkampfwagen IV ausf H 75mm KwK 40 L/48 (turmnummer 923) from Heeresgruppe Mitte with typical eastern front weather and Soviet T-34 tank treads used as additional armor. Two rods for each track link are soldered on the plate. These rods also keep the hatches from beeing fully opened. Note Schurzen (armored skirt) hung from the sides of the tank to defeat shaped charges from damaging the bogie and road wheels. The ausf H was armed with a 75mm gun that fired high velocity shells to defeat the Soviet T-34. The Panzerkampfwagen IV was the most numerous German tank of the war, but its numbers could not compare to the quantities of Soviet T-34s and American M4 Shermans.
